Final project - Streamline!

So upon flipping through the many design styles we have and haven't formally covered during the class until now I particularly like the late edition to art deco that was deemed Streamline.

In particular I liked the work done by Otis Shepard in relation to his work with Wrigley field and Wrigley's gum. I also am thinking about the possibility of a different designer of the same period with a similar style.

I also did some general research about the overall influence of the style -

"Streamline Moderne, sometimes referred to by either name alone, was a late branch of the Art Deco design style. Its architectural style emphasized curving forms, long horizontal lines, and sometimes nautical elements (such as railings and porthole windows). It reached its height in 1937."

I want to incorporate some new products that were being redesigned for this new style such as radios, blenders, refrigerators, etc. Common household appliances mainly.

Here are a few more style reference pictures I found. -

Bauhaus and Plakastil~ 2/17/09

Project 3 ---------------

I really like the interesting angles that are created in this style of art and I think that the incorporation of diverging angles coupled with varied color schemes creates a visual texture. Typeface can be implemented in many different ways and I am looking at maybe using the lines to guide the type along the shapes created within a design similar to these.

For the Plakastil I was thinking more along the lines of a advertisement for a travel agency or an airline in the style of a poster or postcard. This would be made using flat colors and a minimal color scheme. I found these examples of posters made in the older Plakastil style and was thinking about doing something similar to these --
